"The Amsterdam Bar and Hall is the new music venue and bar/restaurant owned by the Oulman family (331 Club). Much like the 331 was at the forefront of the arts boom in NE Minneapolis, we hope to bring that energy to downtown St. Paul. In partnership with the Big Table Studio and Eclipse Records, we aim to make our stretch of Wabasha hopping with entertainment." - amsterdambarandhall.com

Ivan & Alyosha with Brian Just Band @ CEDAR CULTURAL CENTER 09/18/2011
0 Comments

"Seattle indie faves Ivan & Alyosha make their first visit to The Cedar, a follow-up to their sold out supporting appearance with Brandi Carlile at the Minnesota Zoo on Aug 13. They are preparing to release their debut album, following on from their much-admired EP Fathers Be Kind.

Local indie folk sextet the Brian Just Band will open, featuring their Sixties-influenced rich harmonies and solid songwriting, and no doubt performing some songs from their recent full-length album If You Like to be Alone or If You Need to be with Someone." -thecedar.org

    Brian Just Band Bio:
After releasing two contemplative folk EPs as a solo artist, Brian Just knew he needed to put together an eclectic band to reproduce the sounds for the new music he was hearing in his head. Enlisting some of the finest folk- and jazz-influenced talents in the Minneapolis music scene (including members of the Como Avenue Jug Band, The Mad Ripple, Tuesdays Robot and Beight), the six-piece Brian Just Band spent two years writing and recording their first full-length album If You Like To Be Alone Or If You Need To Be With Someone, which was released in May 2011.

Produced by Jim O’Neill (Brad Senne, Allison Scott), If You Like To Be Alone… radiates with gentle breezes of harmony and thoughtfully abstract touches of piano, flute, trumpet and banjo over a pastoral, folk-pop sound that is fresh yet deliberately evokes memories of summers long gone. Several songs have been on heavy rotation on the Local Current, including “Electric” and “Washburn Square.”
